Granite Parent Liaisons for Gifted/Talented Programs

Each elementary and junior high school principal in Granite District has been asked to designate a Parent Liaison for Gifted/Talented Programs. This parent attends monthly meetings at the District Office.

YOUR ROLE as Parent Liaison

·         Liaison to your school’s gifted committee

·         Support for your school’s teacher gifted facilitator

·         Advocate for gifted students in your school through

o   Learning about programming that is available

o   Building awareness of gifted education issues

o   Developing advocacy skills

SENG-Model Parent Support Group

for parents of bright, gifted or talented children

New SENG-Model Parent Support Group forming in Sandy for July and August

You are invited to participate in a guided discussion group to learn about the social and emotional needs of bright/gifted/talented children, and the parenting issues related to those needs. SENG-Model Parent Support Groups are a multi-week guided discussion group for parents of bright or gifted children using the book "Guiding the Gifted Child" by Webb, Meckstroth and Tolan. The emphasis is on positive aspects of parenting, avoiding power struggles, and helping these children learn appropriate life skills while enhancing the parent/child relationship. Topics will include Identification/Characteristics, Parent Relationships, Sibling Relationships, Communication of Feelings, Stress Management, Depression, Motivation, Tradition Breaking, Peer Relationships, Discipline and Adult Giftedness. Groups form on an ongoing basis. To be added to a “SENG Interested” contact list and receive notices of new groups forming OR if you are interested in training to be a group facilitator, send an email to UtahSENG@comcast.net.


OPEN ENROLLMENT

The window enrollment period for the following school year begins annually in December and runs through mid February. Requests during this period do not require a release from the home school or district. Applications are considered on a first come, first served basis with priority given to Granite School District students.Check at www.graniteschools.org for more information.

The Granite Association for Gifted Children (GAGC) is an affiliate of the Utah Association for Gifted Children. We are a non-profit organization of parents, educators, and students dedicated to meeting the educational needs of gifted and talented children. We believe that all children deserve the opportunity for educational growth within our public school system.
