Become a Parent Liaison for Gifted/Talented Programs

What is a parent liaison?

Each elementary and junior high school principal in Granite District has been asked to designate a Parent Liaison for Gifted/Talented Programs. This parent attends monthly meetings at the District Office.

As a parent liaison, your responsibilities will include:

  • Volunteering to act as liaison to your school’s gifted committee
  • Showing support for your school’s teacher gifted facilitator
  • Advocating for gifted students in your school through

  • Learning about programming that is available
  • Building awareness of gifted education issues
  • Developing advocacy skills

I’m not sure. What if my child isn’t gifted?

The Granite District Continuum of Service Model for Gifted and Talented Students includes ALL students in Granite District. Each school should offer a menu of Talent Development Opportunities to all students (Science Fair, Reflections, Chess Club, Debate might be offered at your school – these vary school to school and parent involvement is often required to be able to offer some programs) in addition to differentiated and advanced learner opportunities based on the academic needs of the student.  Come learn about programs, resources, teacher training opportunities, and support for educators and families – and help pass that information on to your school community. Serving as a Parent Liaison can benefit all children at your school. Here is a visual representation of the Continuum of Services for Gifted and Talented Students.
